Sharona was a German settlement founded in the 19th century and located to the north of Jaffa. (It is currently a neighborhood in the heart of Tel Aviv known as Hakirya.) After World War II, Sharona was used as a British police base that was a target for underground operations. After the establishment of the State of Israel, Hakirya was turned into a center of government offices and the Staff Headquarters of the IDF (Rabin Camp).
