Kibbutz Ayelet Hashachar in upper Galilee, six kilometers north of Rosh Pinna on the Tiberias - Qiriat Shemona road, had been a target of Arabs' strikes in the riots of the 1920's and 1930's; as well as an operation center for the Hagana. In the 1940's it served as a base for illegal immigration- by land- through Syria and Lebanon.
During the War of Independence it withstood difficult battles against the Syrians.
