The Eliyahu Golomb Haganah Museum

Location and premises:
The museum is located inside 'Beit Eliyahu Golomb' (Eliyahu Golomb house), 23 Rothschild Boulevard, Tel-Aviv.

This house, built by the Shertok (Sharet) family in the early 1920's was the private home of Eliyahu Golomb and his family, and also served as the Haganah headquarters, of which Golomb was the untitled commander and founder.
Two of the originally kept rooms allow visitors to feel the atmosphere of those days.
Four floors are dedicated to the museum exhibition, and the house also includes the Haganah archive and the Haganah Membership Organization' secretariat. The house has two halls, a luxurious 100-seat auditorium for screening films and another 40-seat viewing room for the audio-visual presentation.

What's inside the Museum:
The 4-story museum display is among the most advanced of its kind. It is designed with huge video screens, models, scenic design and stories from the history of the organization from its inception up to becoming the IDF.

In the entrance level:
Two of the Golomb family members' rooms; changing exhibition.
Currently, an exhibition of sketches by artist Nachum Guttman titled - 'As if they were.' is on display.

On the first level:
Description of the birth of the Defense Force, from its first manifestations in Bar Giora and Hashomer, through founding the Haganah (1919); the Tarap - Tarpa (1920-1921) Riots; The Arab Uprising (1936 - 1939 riots); formulation of the Jewish response methods: 'Breaking the Fence' (offensive operations outside the domain of the Jewish settlements) and Wingate's Special Night Squads (S.N.S); participation of the Yishuv volunteers in the British army's war against the Nazis and their allies during World War II (including the group of Israeli paratroopers, who were dropped in the center of Europe, some of which were caught and executed).

On the second level:
Description of the various battle efforts against the British during 1945 - 1947: 'The Escape,' Illegal immigration, the military battle, building the independent military power and developing weapons (Ta'ass - Military Industry).
The historical tale is brought forth through the personal story of a young Palmach member and a young holocaust survivor, who participate in some of the major events during the battle period: Night of the Bridges, Illegal Immigration and more.

On the third level (under construction):
The tale of the long, blood-shedding War of Independence and the transition from Haganah into IDF after the state's establishment.

Museum programs:
The museum staff prepares its tours according to the different target audiences - pupils, soldiers, new immigrants, tourists and families, groups (with advanced booking) and individuals.
The display is bilingual (Hebrew/English) and can be guided in Russian and French as well (with advanced notice).

A visit to the museum includes:
An opening discussion, a short film about the period, a guided tour of the exhibition, including programs suited for the visitors, and an audio-visual presentation of the heroic Exodus ship.
The museum is open to special afternoon and evening programs such as:
Parent-children meetings (on 'Family Day,' holidays etc.), advanced school studies and even Bar/Bat Mitzva.

Outdoor museum activities:
A tour following the 'Oranges Route': On mentioning 90 years to the founding of Tel-Aviv, the museum offers guided tours to Rothschild Blvd. (between the renewed Russian embassy - the kiosk and 'Rishonim' lantern - 'Rishonim Memorial' and the 'Hall of Independence'.
Various tours: The museum staff will gladly recommend longer tours in the museum area - Neve-Tzedek, the Shalom Tower, Nachlat Binyamin pedestrian-only street and more.

Entrance fee for one adult 8 NIS
Free entrance to pupils, teachers, new immigrants, and Haganah veterans.

Opening hours:
Sunday-Thursday 08:00-16:00 - Friday afternoons and evenings - with advanced notice. Closed on Saturday and holidays.
