The Yisrael Galili Society for the Research of the Defense Force

The Society operates in a few areas:

A. Researches initiated by the society as well as helping researchers on logistical, military, strategic and political topics and their publishing.
In the past year, two research compilations and another volume of the magazine were published.
The Palmach book - planned in two volumes; one (in writing) - will depict the history of the squad from its inception up until its dismantlement. The second - (in print) - is a compilation of researches examining the Palmach from different aspects.
The War of Independence book - meant to serve the readers with an updated research of the War of Independence. With the society's initiative, researches about the war have been ordered, covering a wide range of topic from different aspects: Military, political, social, and economic, regarding the Arab and Jewish hostages, the Arab perspective, recruitment abroad (Gachal) and more. Most of the articles have been written and the society plans on publishing them during this year.
"Olive Leaves and Sward" - a magazine published in association with the IDF archive and the Haganah archive and includes articles, testimonies and memoirs about the Yishuv and the Haganah in the era preceding the state's establishment, up until the end of the War of Independence. So far, volumes 1-3 have been published ; volume 3 by the name of: 'Policy of War - Policy of Peace' was edited by Motti Golani. The 4th volume, commemorating 80 years since the Haganah was established, is due to come out during the year.

B. Conferences and seminars
An annual researchers' conference - takes place on the 11th of Adar (Haganah Day) by the society, and presents new researches on the Defense Force and the War of Independence topics.

C. Seminars
About nine seminar days take place every year in association with Yad Tebenkin, the military history society at Tel-Aviv University, the Advocacy Center and the University Department at the Ministry of Education, on the Defense Force and Israel's wars.

D. Scholarships
The society participates in awarding scholarships to papers and researches by students and researchers on the Defense Force topics.

E. The didactic activity is aimed at expanding the knowledge and deepening the youth's understanding of the society's research fields. The society propagates various activities in association with the 'didactic team': Publishing didactic material for teaching at schools or any other educational frame works.
An annual award for final projects - the society participates in giving an annual award on behalf of Yad Tebenkin to high school seniors for outstanding final projects on the Defense Force, Israel's wars and the history of the settlement.
